Elizabeth Wadleigh Leary has been described as a classical realist, that is, an artist who perceives in the chaos of the world a certain mathematical clarity. Leary’s palette is severely reductive –her work places great emphasis on precise drawing over which color is layered in monochromatic washes. This austerity and clarity of vision lend an aura of haiku poetry to her still life and architectural paintings.

An honors graduate in art from Skidmore College, she was a model maker for Walter Gropius at The Architects Collaborative in Cambridge, Massachusetts and a graphic designer for NASA at the Harvard College Observatory.

Since 1965 she has had over thirty one-man shows and has exhibited in the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe show in New York, with The Brandywine Artists in New Jersey, and the Artists of America show in Denver.

An award-winning artist, her work is in collections internationally. Leary lives and works on her farm in Byfield, Massachusetts.
